These images are a selection of portraits of survivors of the Nazi Holocaust, taken by the voluntary project Portraits for Posterity. The project photographed more than 80 survivors during 2008 and 2009 to create a gallery of images, which will feature in exhibitions in Brighton, London and Manchester to mark Holocaust Memorial Day on 27 January 2010. www.portraitsforposterity.com

Eva Retkin was born in Budapest in 1929. Following the German occupation of  Hungary, she and her family moved to a protected house where they worked clearing rubble. Many of her relations were deported and killed in Auschwitz.

She moved to Britain in 1947 and worked as a primary and special needs teacher.
